  • AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) Charlotte, Collier, and Lee County.  Contact Linda Summers at 239-590-7016 or lsummers@fgcu.edu.
VISTA members work full-time for a year building capacity for nonprofit agencies that alleviate poverty. Americorps VISTA is often called our domestic Peace Corps.  Members receive a monthly living allowance of $840 (in this area), paid health insurance, and an allowance toward child care, if necessary. Members chose between a $1200 stipend and a $4725 education award that can be used for future education or to pay past student loans. These are available at the end of the year of service. During the year of service, VISTA members may not have other jobs nor may they enroll in college. There are also limitations on the extent of political activity in which a VISTA member may engage.  Job training is provided which relates directly to the specific work the VISTA member will be doing during the service year.
